چکیده

Interventional radiotherapy (brachytherapy) has become the new therapeutic standard in management of early stages nasal vestibule tumors; fact it allows for high local control rates and low toxicity profiles. However, since more patients will receive interventional as primary treatment, is desirable to implement novel strategies reduce dose organs at risk with future aim result further lowering long-term side effects. Materials methods: We were able identify two different treatment volume, including implantation technique (the implant can be interstitial, endocavitary or mixed catheters may placed either using Paris system rules anatomical approach) distribution within most commonly used parameter consider non-uniformity ratio). subsequently propose risk, use metal shields fixed case eyes a mouth swab push away mobile organs, such mandible. algorithms verify values namely TG-43 TG-186. Results: provided an accurate literature review regarding underlining pros cons all techniques about ratio. Regarding innovative we investigated eye shielding swabs mandible by performing calculation series three consecutive patients. Our results show that reduction, both shielding, was statistically significant. Conclusion: Proper knowledge best ratio highlighted existing mandatory order volume. With regard reduction have demonstrated could play pivotal role clinical practice; fact, they are effective doses surrounding do not require any change current workflow.

Comparison of interstitial brachytherapy and surgery as primary treatments for nasal vestibule carcinomas.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Squamous cell carcinoma arising from the nasal vestibule is a rare condition accounting for about 1% of head and neck malignancies with several peculiarities concerning both staging and treatment. The aim of this study was to compare the oncological and functional results of two different treatment modalities for the primary site: surgery and brachytherapy. STUDY DESIGN ...

Eye plaque brachytherapy represents a safe and effective therapeutic approach for choroidal melanoma, combining clinical outcomes with an eye and visual preservation. As it represents a complex procedure, a specific quality assurance program is strongly suggested to improve patients and operators safety, and to reduce possible complications linked to surgical procedure and radiation exposure. Abnormal V1 and/or V2 sensations are a strong indication of the possibility of tumour. Computed tomography is the most reliable and informative imaging tool for evaluating the cancers of the paranasal sinuses. Ma...

Nasal vestibule wall elasticity: interactions with a nasal dilator strip.

We studied the effect of an adhesive external nasal dilator strip (ENDS) on external nasal geometry in 20 healthy Caucasian adults (10 men, 10 women; age 21-45 yr). The recoil force exerted by ENDS was estimated by bending the device (n = 10) with known weights. In the horizontal direction, a small/medium-sized ENDS in situ exerted a unilateral recoil force of 21.4-22.6 g. Application of ENDS r...
